We felt a little description and background to the word “Hench” was in order to help explain our philosophy.

History of Hench

Hench is a term that came about as a description of a thing, usually a man. A Henchman was so called because of his attriubtes: faithful, loyal, and usually incredibly strong!
The interesting thing here is that officially, in the English language, the word “hench” does not exist on its own. It is a prefix, most commonly used for “man” as aforementioned. However, as “man” is a word in it’s own right, the prefix, “Hench” becomes the descriptive part of the word, making the definiton of “Hench” immediately obvious.

History of Hench continued…

In more recent years, after Henchmen have been replaced by security guards, the word Hench started to be used as a descriptive term, as it’s prefix would suggest, for something that is bold, strong, good, loyal, powerful, a statement and in a word; Hench.

This has led to an influx of Hench related terms for example someone might previously have said, “cool”, where they now say, “Hench”. It’s an instant description of something in a positive way, but with Hench it’s usually something larger than life. Another example; a huge book like an encyclopedia might be described as Hench.

More recently still, Hench has become synonymous with all things both great and small, which are in a word; great. That leads to the word Hench as a prefix being used more and more to describe things, for example, hench-book, hench-business, hench-wine, hench-drink, hench-car, hench-computer, henchman (still ongoing) and more recently, henchwoman!

Hench in Popular Culture

Many people have the surname, Hench. Most famously perhaps, is John Hench who was employed by Disney and worked closely with the likes of Walt Disney himself and Salvador Dali, the famous Spanish artist during his career.

Hench Design

Hench design is just that. As decribed above, Hench is usually a prefix for another word, and has come to mean, ‘in a good or positive way’. Hench design therefore is, great design. If your immediate instinct when you see a piece of bold and fantastic design is to smile and say, “Hench”, then that would be an apt example of its use.

The Future of Hench

Put simply, our aim is to make the world Hench. We want everything to be great. Everything should look good in a Hench world, but more than that, it should be functional too. We strive for this dual perfection in all the design that we do; to make everything beautiful, elegant and purposeful; maintaining it’s function. In a word, Hench.
The future for Hench is bright! We hope to soon see hench design, hench labels, hench wine, hench brands and hench websites which we’ve created as well as a whole host of other hench related terms. We’re gradually turning hench from a mere word into a way of being, a way of life and it is exactly that which defines Hench and who we are. Passionate and dedicated to our cause; we are Hench!
